Before there was writing, there was storytelling.

The ancient practice of passing history, culture, and tradition between generations, storylines exist in every culture across the world.

Indigenous Australians have songlines, Ancient Greeks had epic poetry, and west African people have griots, storytellers whose job it is to ensure the survival of the stories of their people.

Storytelling is how we pass on our culture and traditions to our children and grandchildren. It’s how we teach our young people who we are, which helps them understand their place in the world. It’s how we leave a legacy, and ensure our lives echo through the generations.

Ordinary Australians from all walks of life have extraordinary stories to tell. From epic migration tales, to experiences of conflict, war and survival. From love and loss, families raised, successes celebrated, and lessons learned.

Very few of us ever take the time to write our stories down. It takes time, memory, and effort. So our stories die with us.

Today we have an opportunity through audio and video to document our personal stories in an accessible, affordable, and long-lasting way, to ensure that our stories live on long after we’re gone.

Storylines is a professional documentary service to help families record their stories in audio or video.

Backed by podcast and video production specialists The Content Engine, our team draws on decades of radio, podcast, and documentary film production experience, so you can rest assured that your story will be told sensitively and professionally.
